Caption: A cast of the maquette for a memorial to Oscar Wilde, the great nineteenth century writer and wit. Pye is renowned for his abstract works which usually include geometric shapes and moving water but felt that the humanity of Wilde could only be represented figuratively. He proposed a recognisable figure, Wilde, strolling over a low pyramid covered with Wilde aphorisms. The full size sculpture has yet to be cast.
